My love for spontaneity knows no bounds! By Thursday night I had no weekend plans and by Friday night I was enjoying a last-minute mini getaway. Turns out I can pack at breakneck speed if I have to. When I was kindly offered the opportunity of a few nights stay at The Stables in Bowness for the weekend, it was the exact change of scenery that I needed. A pretty change of scenery didn’t hurt. 🙂
I’ve several Lake District-y posts lined up (we only took about 28208 photos) but thought I’d start with our basecamp for now. Basecamp aka The Stables, Bowness-On-Windermere. Such a quirky little place to stay! I’m fairly sure the whole apartment didn’t contain a single right angle – quirky round walls, quirky loft ceilings, all very unusual in a cute space. My bedroom at home is a loft conversion and I have a bit of a thing for rooms with beams haha.
You can’t beat the flexibility and freedom that being in the thick of things brings, and our cosy home for the weekend was certainly well placed to enjoy motoring-free evenings out whilst still affording us totally undisturbed nights. Our view out the back was bowling green, lake Windermere and surrounding fells yet 5 minutes from the front door was a brand new champagne cocktail bar! Who knew those two could coexist so neatly? Just wandering out of the apartment at night and browsing dinner options in evening warmth felt very holiday like, even only an hour away from home.
Save for one occasion years ago when I almost set a restaurant on fire with a napkin, I’ve never actually stayed in Bowness before, so it was nice to have the town on our doorstep to explore a little. And witness the local nightlife. Very interesting. People-watching with a cocktail entertained us just nicely. 😀
Claire and Marc have done a fabulous job with The Stables. If you’re looking for modern accommodation with the personality you’d expect from a converted stable block then I’d highly recommend giving Claire a call!
Our accommodation was complimentary but of course, all opinions are my own.
