Crazy that it’s over a year since I was posting about prom dress searching! The build up to it was half the fun, I’m sure most girls will agree. When LittleBlackDress.co.uk contacted me about styling a prom look for my blog, I was happy to oblige, of course. We might only have one prom at most schools in the UK but I’m not gonna turn down an opportunity to pretend! After a pleasant while spent browsing their huge collection of pretty dresses (I challenge you to try prying yourself away from the site before reaching page 56!) I settled on this jersey number from Lipstick Boutique. The length, shape and pretty much everything else is a completely different look to my actual prom dress last year, which is exactly what I fancied. Another swishy long dress was tempting, but realistically I don’t get that many opportunities for ballgowns in my life so thought I’d pick something slightly more versatile. I’d wear this one dressed down with sandals and belted for a nice meal or something in summer too, so I think I made a good choice!
I loved all the Jones & Jones dresses too, but they looked like they’d be somewhat risky even on a petite frame so would probably sit at an awkward sticky-out tunic length on me. Not to mention indecent. Have to allow for dresses being a good few inches shorter on me than photographed – this one’s almost knee length on the website and clearly nowhere near that long on me. I’m all for short tight dresses but wouldn’t want to go too short for prom, it just doesn’t seem like that kind of event. Sticky-outy swingy is all good though 😀
Giving it my best Victoria Beckham pose haha! When all else fails, copying VB can never be a bad idea. It’s not often you’ll catch me in 5 inch heels but I thought the shorter hemline merited something a little more snazzy shoe-wise. No harm done borrowing a pair (thanks Nicky!) to play dress up in is there? If I were actually to do prom again I’d probably go for a big messy updo too – shows off the shoulder cutouts and earrings and keeps my hair from sticking to my lipstick. There are loads of prom looks I’d like to try though – jealous of you American people with all your multiple proms and homecomings and everything!

How’s everybody’s weekend been? After a Friday night in with a few friends I’ve had a pretty chilled one, just running a few errands and generally getting stuff done at home. And dressing up in prom dresses, like you do. A much needed catchup weekend 🙂
Would you choose differently if you were dressing for prom now?

15th March 2015 at 10:58 pmThis is such a beautiful dress, I love the colour and it looks gorgeous on you! I wore a short dress to my prom because I knew I’d feel more comfortable than in a long one. I really want an excuse to wear my prom dress again though I loved it.

15th March 2015 at 11:33 pmWow! That dress looks absolutely amazing on you! I love prom season! I went to both of mine and my sister has went to three. She was supposed to go this year but that didn’t happen. We usually had a grand march for all of the couples to walk across the gym floor in front of their family members. I always loved that! From 2006 to last year I went religiously. I doubt I’ll be going this year because I don’t know anybody that’s going, so there’s no point. 🙁
I would definitely choose a different prom dress if I had the chance. I was up for Homecoming during my senior year and had the choice of getting two dresses that year, but I loved my brown dress from homecoming that I didn’t think I needed to waste money on another one. Even though my mom and dad both said I could get another dress!! I would do over my junior year. It was coral/salmon-y colored. It was like $30 and from JC Penney’s so it wasn’t anything as special as my brown dress honestly! I still want a purple dress! I think if I could I’d either get married in a black or royal purple dress!!

16th March 2015 at 7:57 pmThank you so much for commenting Meghan! I love all the excitement about prom too, I went to watch for the couple of years before mine and will probably go watch next year’s and my brothers years too! My school never did the couples thing for prom though – that’d cause far too much drama haha.
A purple dress would be stunning! As you can tell I have a bit of a thing for blue dresses haha!

16th March 2015 at 8:32 amLove the dress. The colour definitely suits you! I think if I did prom again I wouldn’t change anything because I liked the way I looked (and I was one of the few people who looked liked they made an effort!) I had a beautiful champagne coloured dress with a flower stitched design on the front. I still have the dress but can no longer wear it. It’s one of the things that motivates me into wanting to lose weight haha

16th March 2015 at 8:34 pmBlue is my colour I think! I can’t understand why people wouldn’t make an effort for prom, what? Your dress sounds beautiful!

16th March 2015 at 5:52 pmWow, this dress is absolutely stunning! I think I would have picked this one too, because actually I have one in the exact same shade! The shape is just a bit more posh (poshier..? English will kill me one day, haha) but I really, really love yours too! Bright blue is so flattering, isn’t it!
As for my weekend it has been pretty much laid-back, doing groceries at the market, walking in the woods with the dog… It’s always great not to do anything thrilling from time to time!
Have a nice week! xx

16th March 2015 at 8:40 pmYou and I have very similar taste! More posh is correct ;D I’m a fan of all the blues!
It is nice to just have a chilled weekend with nothing too exciting, sometimes ordinary is better than extraordinary 😛

19th March 2015 at 11:57 amThat is such a lovely dress – I love the colour. You always look so beautiful in all your posts. I wish I had the confidence to wear more dresses and things out with my comfort zone in general but I always find myself slinking back to jeans!
