Firstly I must ask if we can kindly ignore my bra trying to get a piece of the action. YOU’RE A BORING T-SHIRT BRA YOU DON’T DESERVE ANY ATTENTION OK. Turns out wearing a top out for the first time without realising how much it’ll fall down isn’t the best idea, who’d have thought it?
Anyway, back to the point of this post – proof that I am capable of having a good hair day. This time courtesy of the lovely Dominique at Blonde and the Bears salon. Look at those bouncy waves! In addition to the bouncy blow dry I went for a cut about as dramatic as Kate Middleton’s ‘dramatic hair changes’, ie. about 2 inches off the ends and a trim of the layers. Every now and then, when my hair’s tucked into my collar or something, I debate what I’d look like with a long bob and am tempted to go for it. One of these days, sometime in the next decade, I might. But not yet. The fear of looking like my 12 year old self (who didn’t have a year 7 bob though?) is too real. My hair’s neither particularly shiny, nor curly, nor vibrant, nor voluminous, so being reasonably long is just about the only thing it does have going for it. No way I’m chopping off those lengths just yet! That said, long brown hair can get a bit boring, and it always seems to take someone else getting their hands on my hair to make me feel enthused about it again. I mean, if Dominique could blowdry my hair like this every day that would be absolutely fab, but in the meantime I’ll have to get my head round doing a better blowdry myself!
Apparently this is the secret to it – letting the hair cool around the brush to keep the shape. Turns out my ‘bending the ends under’ method just doesn’t cut it for the style I want. Feels mighty odd and kind of like having seriously heavy rollers dangling from your scalp, but it does the trick and doesn’t hurt. Thanks Dominique for showing me this trick!
As for the salon experience itself, I left Blonde and the Bears feeling so damn chilled. A head and a hand massage definitely had something to do with that! All the Aveda products used are plant-based and cruelty free, not to mention smelling so fresh and lovely. My hair felt so light and swishy afterwards and I’m fairly sure that’s down to all the natural and organic products. Oh and the bright interior and pink wall outside the salon are Instagram goals. So there’s that too.
I’m already looking forward to being part of a bridal shoot with Blonde and the Bears in September – getting all glammed up in a wedding dress sounds like lots of fun!

My experience at Blonde and the Bears was complimentary, however all opinions are my own.
