end of an era | dance show 2015

Dad's dance at dance show

jet-set

Sunday was amazing, I wish I could go back already!  So sad that the evening performance was my last dance show ever.  I took the mic to say some final thank yous at the end of the show and basically cried my eyes out as soon as I started to speak.  Blubbering into a microphone with stage makeup down my face in front of 700 people, well done Lily!  I cried at the last show just thinking that the next would be my last, so no surprises that I didn’t hold it together for very long past the finale this time.  It really was such a fab day though.  As you maybe guessed from the above photo, we had a few ‘guests’ in one of our dances, by way of a ‘Dads’ dance’ haha.  Quite possibly the most fun/funny dance I’ve ever done!  The photo’s from our last rehearsal the day before – I didn’t manage to get any shots of everybody in pilot and air hostess costumes sadly!  We were ‘The Jetset’ and the whole dance just came together so well.  Most of the dads had never danced a step in their lives so did so well to learn the routine, especially in such secrecy!  Most of their families only found out once the pilots came on with their step-ball-changes, and the surprise just made it even more entertaining.  It’s the first time we’ve done anything like this so I’m so glad I hadn’t left yet!

Stage makeup is quite the sight to behold close up!  Gone are the days where we’ll let one of the mums helping backstage cover us in ‘pancake’ with blue eyeshadow and clown style red cheeks.  May or may not have speedwalked across town on a false eyelashes mission whilst wearing said scary makeup 😛  My mum took a couple of pictures as I was getting ready on Sunday morning but we didn’t have chance to take any in costumes, so my speedy iPod snapshots will have to do!  Shocking quality but ah well.

Long time dancing bestie!  So cheesy in our air hostess costumes but the cheeky cheesy dance just made it such a laugh.  Spinning around our pilots and everything 😀  After I’d finished crying and babbling into the microphone (I can’t even remember what I said) and the curtain had gone down, loads of the little ones came over and hugged me which just set me off even more, but they’re so lovely.  Still hasn’t quite sunk in that I’ll never do this all again!  I can’t believe I started when I was 3, it’s so weird to think of going to watch the babies in tutus in the ‘big ballet’ in 14 years time – I’ll be 31!

Overall I just had the best day.  Couple of technical hitches and we almost forgot to line the babies up to go on stage (resulting in a ‘quickkkk run and grab a child!!!’ rush) but I even managed my 5 quick changes twice through which was quite the achievement.  Really got into it singing along from the wings too. 😀  Thank you so much to everyone who’s been a part of this show and came to watch!  Life Is A Cabaret 2015, our best one yet 😀

It really was! My dance school is only really for 3-18 year olds and we do shows every other year, so I’ll be too old next time!

I’m so sorry that it’s your last show! It’s so obvious how much you love it and it’s so hard to leave something like that when it’s not by choice. I really hope that you’ll keep dancing elsewhere!
I was so hoping there was a video in the end of this post, I really wanted to see it haha!

I really did love the show! I’m sure I’ll continue dancing in some way or other 🙂
Nobody was allowed to take videos in the theatre, sorry!

What a great end to your happy time as a dance student! I have really enjoyed hearing about your classes and the show prep too! I have also been motivated to start ballet too. I went to watch an adult ballet class last week and see if was going to be too hard for me. It is a drop-in class so I think I will start this week. Enough watching and waiting while my girls do ballet! Time to do something too! Although my watching and waiting days are not over…
