So many milestones around this age seem to go past in approximately 3 days. One minute it’s your 16th birthday… then you’re leaving school… then all of a sudden you’re 18, (woohoo!)… then you’re leaving college that you attended for a whole 2 minutes… then most are off to university or starting a job or having some kind of monumental life change… then (I can hazard a guess) you’re done and dusted with university in another 3 minutes and graduate within a blink of an eye. Goes something like that, right? Birthday presents, graduation presents, congratulations presents (I won’t bring up Christmas yet, don’t worry) – jewellery is always a good gift idea. And yes that includes gifts from you to you. It isn’t a groundbreaking idea, granted, but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! Sometimes it’s fun to think of really cool creative presents that look like they’re straight out of Pinterest, and sometimes it’s nice just to give something… nice. Super simple, classic, pretty, whatever you want to call it. Choose something that’ll get worn every day and you’re onto a real winner.
I don’t know about you, but I have a pretty good memory when it comes to clothes and jewellery. Ask me what I wore to an occasion in 2008 and you betcha I’ll know. And that’s just for everyday stuff! Ask me who gave me that necklace I’m wearing and I’ll tell you exactly who, when, what they said when I opened it, the lot. Whether it’s my Nan, friend, ex boyfriend, I’ll tell ya. There’s something really cute about having a back story behind items to remember. From the horse charm bracelets I was given as a kid (every present was horse related, seriously. I was a girl obsessed), to the ones that were given by a special someone at the time, it’s nice to remember the back story. I still have the animal charm bracelet my mum was given as a present age 9, and it’s one of my fave things I own.
In case you’re wondering why the sudden ode to jewellery today, Brown’s Family Jewellers are giving my readers the chance to win this super cute pearl and diamond necklace. Would be a beaut present to give to someone celebrating a special milestone, just needing a pick-me-up, or to treat yo self when you feel like you deserve it. Like if you made it through Tuesday, for example. Any occasion is worthy. They’re a family business from the North of England (any chance to big up the North, I’ll take it!) and have a bunch of other pretty items available on their site and in stores too. If you’d like to enter then the competition starts on Thursday 14th July and ends on Thursday 28th July [EDITED: now open until 28th August!], and you can enter using the form below. Bonus entries for telling me about your favourite item of jewellery in the comments!

14th August 2016 at 3:56 pmI like rings the best, although I can only wear one at a time. I like a bit of sparkle and some textured metal.

24th August 2016 at 11:21 amAn incredibly fine and delicate gold necklace with a tiny star on it. It was a present at uni from a friend from Bahrain and I’ve never seen anything like it in the UK.
