I mentioned a couple of weeks ago about photography being on my summer ‘to do’ wishlist, and when Blossoming Gifts Flower Delivery contacted me about receiving a bouquet of my choice, it seemed like an ideal prop to start with! Not gonna turn down a lovely little bouquet delivered to my door, am I? Whilst they were still nice and fresh I armed myself with a macro lens and evening back-lighting and snapped away.
I actually did a photography 365 project on Flickr back in 2010 – anybody remember those? I thought about it other day, googled ‘Lilykate Flickr’ (not a cat in hell’s chance of remembering my password) and there they all were. Many photographs of my cats, several deeply embarrassing selfies, a whole load of unnecessary vignettes and (god awful) texture layers, and one shot even featuring my pink crocs. #NoShame. However, there are also a number that I’m still pretty proud of now, to be honest. Proud of the creativity, if not the editing. Even if I’d forgotten they existed. Cool how you can just Google yourself and all the memories come flooding back, isn’t it? I’d come home from school and be messing around with my camera for ages, capturing moments and ‘things’ purely for the sake of it. I had a genuine interest in photography as an art, and it’s something I’ve let slip over the last few years. Using my phone camera for Instagram is just all too easy, and without the daily challenge of a 365 project, there isn’t the push to find something photogenic in day to day life like there was back when I’d determinedly pace the house and garden looking for something I could snap from a jaunty angle. Granted I no longer have the free time I did as a 12 year old and likely never again will, but I’m gonna give this photography thing another shot (*sorry*) anyway!
I also took a pretty cool macro shot of a big ass spider yesterday too, but I though I’d spare the arachnophobes amongst you of that one. You can see the hairs on its legs and everything.
I handed the camera to my mum to try including myself in a shot or two, but there’s just no way of combining face + flowers in one shot without looking cheeseballs to the extreme. There seriously isn’t. Swiftly moved on from that idea. 🙂
So beautiful and delicate and soft and lovely. The spikey buggers did get me a few times whilst arranging them though.
Pretty ain’t they! Anybody looking for online flowers can use my discount ‘BGIFTS33‘ to receive a 33% discount, which can be applied to all but the ‘flowers by post’ range.
