it’s all in the (back) detail

We all have that one little detail that we’ll never tire of, yes? Back details – be it cutouts, zips or any other pretties – have always been my favourite, so this helped me choose, when I was given the chance to select an item from the French Connection website. The triangle cutout, plus the fact that it’s knitted (instant 10x better in my book), made this grey mini stand out as a slightly different party dress, that could be both glam and casual. Here’s to 18th birthdays and relaxed outings alike! I actually wore opaque tights, black flats and a loose jacket with this to nip into town, before wapping off the tights for a few chilly shots to show the dress off properly. Aside from for the occasional extra special event (wedding, awards evening and the like) I like my outfits to be as versatile as possible. Seems like such a waste otherwise.  Usually I go for pieces like this, that will work equally well with strappy heels in summer, as bundled under a scarf in winter.

So many bloggers are pro vintage shoppers, they seem to find treasures everywhere. Whilst I don’t claim to be the best at thrifty shopping, I’m pretty pleased with this 1920s necklace.  As part of the 2012 Preston Guild, Avenham park filled with vintage stalls and attractions, and this rustic choker was my favourite find. Apparently Egyptian style was everywhere in the 20s after the discovery of Tutankhamen, hence the sphinx medallion thingy! Unfortunately it’s kind of an awkward length so doesn’t get as much wear as I’d like, but I think it sat just nicely against this round neckline.

It’s finally half term, yay! Christmas doesn’t even seem that long ago but boy am I glad for a break. ‘Break’ meaning mountain of homework, sadly. On another note, bad blogger me didn’t document Valentine’s day! Dan and I decided to have a cute night in, seeing as last year we went out for dinner and it was pretty busy and rushed. We had a perfect time in, never mind that we’re only 16 and 17. 😉

Who else is joining #lbloggers whilst watching the Olympics tonight?  I’ve become a little addicted to watching figure skating: it endlessly fascinates me seeing as I’ve only been ice skating twice and broke my arm doing that!  They make it look so easy.
